Possibilities ???
According to my knowledge.... the type of Virus which infected Phang Yuen Sum's computer is 99% a virus which infects the MBR or worse even encrypts itself (so that removing it will make you lose all data). Don't worry, the last time I got infected all my files just got messed up and the whole computer had major software bugs !
The Antidote !!!
Here are a few solutions depending on the virus :
- Well... hmmmmm..... You see, technically speaking even if you format your HDD(Hard Disk Drive), such a Virus (MBR) will not be able to be removed. So, formatting the HDD is a stupid idea unless the Virus is a stupid one too.
So be smart, wise up, virus needs smart solutions ! First of all backup the MBR !!! and then Overide the current MBR with a new one (not forgetting to boot the HDD with a virus-free floppy disk first or there would be no point Overiding the MBR coz the Virus will just rewrite itself back on the MBR). Then your computer is Virus free !!! Simple solution to a tough virus.
- So if you are unlucky, the virus you might have lurking in the HDD of your computer might be self encrypting and Stealth ! Now that`s a pain in the ass. With this kind of Virus, Overiding the MBR of the HDD will not only remove the virus but also remove all the data on your HDD.
The only solution for this kind of virus is a good Anti-Virus software (McAfee Anti-Virus, Norton Anti-Virus) which will remove the virus safely without removing all your data on your HDD.
- Trust me ! Formatting is a stupid idea. You won't just get your self an empty HDD but also a head full of shit from trying to re-install all your software all over again. The only good point from formatting your HDD is that you'll have a HDD with a lot of empty space.
Don`t trust format freaks like Lai Woon Chin, K. Wai Kheong, etc. etc. They are all out of their minds ! Once there is any problem major or minor, their solution would be FORMAT !!! Trust me, formatting is fun but re-installing is a real pain in the ass.
